Head to head

Baden-Baden or Wiesbaden?

Two spa-town casinos in Kurhaus buildings, and two very different evenings: one asks for a jacket and a 21st birthday, the other asks for almost nothing.

Our verdict

In short

Baden-Baden is the more formal, historic and spa-led stay; Wiesbaden is the easier and cheaper one. Baden-Baden requires a jacket for men, a minimum age of 21 and €5 for the table games; its hotel, Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa, holds two Michelin Keys and a spa that opens until 22:00. Wiesbaden admits guests from 18 for free, bans sportswear rather than business-casual and is about 42 minutes from Frankfurt Airport on the S8.

If you came for the occasion, choose Baden-Baden; if you came for the evening, Wiesbaden.
