Head to head

Berlin or Baden-Baden?

Berlin’s casino of 1998 against Baden-Baden’s Kurhaus of 1824. One is a city casino on Potsdamer Platz; the other asks for a jacket in a historic gaming room.

Our verdict

In short

Berlin is the city weekend; Baden-Baden is the occasion. Berlin admits guests from 18 for €2, opens its casino floor daily from 11:00 to 03:00 (roulette and blackjack from 17:00) and has the airport-express station a few minutes’ walk away. Baden-Baden asks for 21, a jacket and €5 at the tables, but offers a grand hotel with a spa open until 22:00, a historic gaming room and the Festspielhaus.

Berlin does not publish a dress code; Baden-Baden does. If you want to know what to wear, that alone may decide it.
