Head to head

Wiesbaden or Bad Homburg?

Both admit guests from 18 and both sit within an hour of Frankfurt. One has more slot machines, a spa fed by a thermal spring and free entry; the other is calmer, in a park.

Our verdict

In short

Wiesbaden is the better first casino evening; Bad Homburg is the better quiet weekend. Wiesbaden's casino is larger (more than 200 slots against 160+, and eight poker tables), entry is free and the hotel's Badhaus is fed by the Kochbrunnen spring. Bad Homburg charges a €2.50 day ticket for the classic games but has its casino in a Kurpark of roughly 44–47 hectares, a brine spa (the Kur-Royal) on a separate ticket, and reaches Frankfurt Hbf in about 24 minutes on the S5.

Wiesbaden's hotel has no dinner restaurant and the grand Nassauer Hof is closed until 2028; Bad Homburg has no Michelin restaurant in the town. For a starred or Michelin-listed dinner, both send you out: to Eltville in the Rheingau from Wiesbaden, to Oberursel, Königstein or Frankfurt from Bad Homburg.
